Appeal For The Establishment Of International Laws To Help Medical Error Victims
We hereby appeal to the representatives of the world's governments, to the international community at large for the establishment of laws guaranteeing unconditional and immediate medical help to patients who have suffered in result of doctors' errors, medical accidents and other instances of medical malpractice. It is unacceptable for doctors to protect themselves by concealing their errors at the cost of their patients' life and health.
All patients harmed more by medical treatment than they would have been by their untreated ailments should receive cost-free medical assistance in order to eradicate the effects of medical errors. Such assistance should be financed from public funds or by obligatory insurance of health providers.
It is unacceptable that medical error victims are forced to prove before court that they are in fact victims of medical malpractice before receiving subsidized medical help. Such degrading procedures stand in violation of the basic rulings of the Human Rights Declaration (Article 5) and should be condemned and forbidden.
